| A very nostalgic picture set in a pristine
Maltese landscape with the ubiquitous red dome
peeping out between the hills, tilled fields and
rubble walls. One wonders what the couple
are doing; she well turned out in black dress
and malachite earrings and necklace and he
apparently wearing nothing but an elaborate
Chinese parasol. A lady meeting her lover?
We may never know. |

| The liver and white Maltese hunting dog of
Malta or Kelb tal-Kacca is still a great
favourite and the two boys admiring their new
puppy is a sight not uncommon in Malta.
The romantic landscape with its wayside chapel,
carob tree and graceful fennel plant contrasts
bodly with the sapphire Mediterranean Sea |

| All Maltese girls of good family used to be
sent to piano lessons and ballet school whether
they had any inclination for it or not.
This particular ballerina, although dressed for
the part is certainly of the latter variety and
may have been proudly produced to show her paces
to her parents' friends while having tea in the
garden with its typically elaborate wrought iron
gateway. |

| The little boy simply cannot wait to get
dressed before leaping on to his mother's lap
demanding a story. The urban landscape
which one can see out of the open balcony door,
is dominated by a baroque belfry while on the
table next to the couple is an 18th Century
Maltese coffee pot. A ginger Maltese cat
fixedly watches a couple of birds performing a
courtly ritual dance in mid air, unperturbed by
the boy's interruption!. |
